Clothing Distribution for Refugee Families at Riverdale, MD - October 22, 2020

MCMF is distributing clothes and other household items to refugee families at Riverdale Apartments. The distribution program is being organized in partnership with LSS ( Lutheran Social Services) . 

The families are being provided  with Men, women and kids clothes as also household items like Comforters, bedsheets , towels , utensils, crockeries etc. Toys for kids  are also being distributed.

Presenter Bio: 

For the past 16 years Mi'raj Ahmad Riccio has served as an administrator, counselor, and teacher in Islamic and independent schools. Since 2017 he has served as the Academic Counselor and Director of Students Advisory at the King Abdullah Academy, International Baccalaureate World School in Herndon, VA. His former students have gone on to attend Princeton, Yale, MIT, Johns Hopkins, and Georgetown.

MCMF Food Pantry distributes food to 100 families

MCMF distributes 100 food baskets of shelf-stable food and fresh produce to needy residents of MOCO serving over 400 people.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY MUSLIM FOUNDATION LAUNCHES AFRICAN AMERICAN EQUTY FUND TO SHOW SOLIDARITY WITH THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY

MCMF launched African American Equity Fund to benefit the African American community. The Fund has been launched to award youth scholarships to deserving African Americans going to college and to provide legal aid to African American community. The event was held on the Muslim Day of Repentance when Muslims fast and pray for peace, harmony, and forgiveness.  The launching of the African America Equity Fund when the Civil rights icon Congressman John Lewis was laid to rest is a tribute to the Congressman and MCMF’s solidarity with the African American community. The virtual event was attended by over 50 participants from diverse backgrounds including Senator Chris Van Hollen, Congressman David Trone, Congressman Jimmy Raskin, Congressman André Carson, Congressman John Sarbanes, County Executive Marc Elrich, County Council Members- Sidney Katz, Gabe Albornoz, Andrew Friedson, Will Jawando, Nancy Navarro and Reverend Kaseman from the Interfaith Community Liason, Office of Community Partnership.

The event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran read by Tarek Elghawary, a scholar of Islam in MD who spoke on equality and justice for all in Islam, followed by a moment of silence for Congressman John Lewis. Mr. Jamil Aalim Johnson, President of Prince Georges County Muslim Council was invited to speak on racial and social injustice. The Congressmen, County Council Members and faith leaders paid tribute to Congressman John Lewis and applauded the initiative of MCMF in launching the African American Equity Fund. MCMF Food Pantry Distributes food to 400 people in Montgomery County

MCMF Food Pantry distributed a total of 6,860 lbs of non-perishable, fresh milk, and apples to 400 low-income individuals in MOCO.

MCMF and Youth Tech Virtual Coding and Book Club @ MCMF

MCMF AND YOUTH TECH CLUB HOLD VIRTUAL CODING CLASSES AND BOOK CLUB

Due to the COVID-19, the Computer coding program conducted by Youth Tech Club has transitioned from on site to online teaching. The classes are conducted as usual on Saturdays using the ZOOM platform. The transition has been very smooth for us and the students are adapting to it very well. The Python class is from 11:00 to 12:00 and the scratch class is from 12:15 to 1:15.We have tried to keep up with our regular routine and we do offer one to one private sessions for students who need help or if they miss a class. MCMF is working with Youth Book Club to encourage young minds to read and inspire themselves through books.  The club is conducted every Wednesday via ZOOM platform between 3 and 4 p.m. Two books have been chosen for the summer reading.

MCMF donates 100 food boxes to St.Jude's Church

MCMF provided 100 food boxes to Shrine of St. Jude, Church, Rockville, and St.Stephen's pantry to distribute to low income families in Aspen Hill.
